A friend and I were discussing the recent cupcake boom over lunch at Black Bean Co. Where did this come from? What happened to the other desserts? Did the cupcakes take the brownies, cookies, and pies hostage on some remote island? And did we all forget about fruit? Fruit is such a sweet and tasty way to curb a craving for sugary, caloric sweets. Can the taste of cupcakes really bring on such a following? I clearly remember cupcakes from my childhood... and the stomach aches that followed. Cake boutiques springing up on every corner and every channel. Just what were we missing?
So what did we do? We headed straight to the local cupcake-a-teer.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Overall, we enjoyed our cupcakes; a dollop too much icing, but the cake was baked perfectly. However, we came to a mutual decision: we won't be joining the masses engulfed in the cupcake madness. But hats off to the little cake makers. They are cute, tasty and a fun way to express creativity. You just can't beat the the savory sweetness of fruit!
